Apple as an iOS device manufacturer has patented presence systems that are built and applied to mobile devices. Patents have also been applied to other devices like the MacBook. Actually, this recognition system is the advanced recognition applications for use on a home or office. The system is also combined with the technology using fingerprint recognition.
Presence detection technology can be used to turn the device automatically when the user appears. Facial recognition technology also can use to unlock devices as replacement of commonly used passwords. The device can also be configured with face recognition from a number of users in the group like in a family or workplace.
Presence detection is done in several stages. First, the device will detect the reference model includes a reference image of a face, and processing the captured image further could include matching the eyes of the detected face with eyes of the face in the reference image to obtain a normalized image of the detected face. Then the device will detect normalized faces based on the location of the eyes and mouth which became a reference earlier. Process continues to analyze the weighted differences of target face and normalized detected face. Then the device put detected faces with a certain frame size and match it with the target face. Finally, the face can be recognized as someone who is in the database.
This patent has been made since June 29, 2010 by Apple, more than a year after "Face Unlock" that was introduced to the public.
